Maria Chirinos

2018 Young Artist Competition Winner

Maria Chirinos is an 18-year-old violinist from Venezuela who started her musical studies at the age of six. Throughout the years, Maria had the opportunity to participate in the National Children Orchestra of Venezuela three times (2007, 2010, and 2013) where she was given the privilege of playing in one of the most important events for art in the world in the Salzburg Festival of 2013 in Austria. She accomplished all of this with the help of the great teacher Sergio Celis and Jose Francisco Del Castillo as a member of the Latino-American Academy of Violin. She has also performed the Lalo Violin Concerto with the Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar de Venezuela, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.

Maria has also left her mark in important orchestra halls during the Europe 2014 Tour with the Orquesta Sinfónica Teresa Carreño de Venezuela, with visits to Sweden, Germany, Portugal, France, Great Britain and Turkey.

She has also accomplished a lot of things as a Shattuck - St. Mary’s student. Since her sophomore year, she has participated in competitions like Thursday Musical, Schubert Club, Mary West, YPSCA, the Mankato Symphony, and she is one of the selected performers as ‘Featured Artists’ for the Classical Minnesota Public Radio station.

Maria is wrapping up college applications and hopes she can pursue her passion in the United States.
